    Frequently Asked Questions

Poonhill trek is one of the best and easiest trek of Nepal. People mainly do this trek to introduce themselves to trekking as beginners. It is also popular for the best sunrise views from the top of Poon Hill (3210 m) over the village of Ghorepani can be found at Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre, which are 6993 m. One of the world's most spectacular routes enchants you with nature, beauty and fascinating culture.

Poon Hill is the shortest and most modest yet exotic hiking route. This trip can be completed successfully in any person with good health.

In this walk, you walk up the stony stairs or downhill for around 5-6 hours per day. The walk may be a little challenging, but not impossible, for beginners.

The Poonhill Ghorepani Trek involves a mountain lodge and two nights at a hotel of Pokhara. We offer a twin sharing room in Tikhedunga / Ulleri, Ghorepani and Jhino Danda with an en suite toilet. and basic Tadapani accommodation.

The Pokhara hotel provides toilets, Television, 24-hour hot water, power supply and washing facilities.

For single trekker-one private single room with bath in the lodge, individual private accommodation anywhere else in the route.

Two nights hotels in Kathmandu, which is included in the deal, are mandatory before and after the trip.

Free WiFi and electricity to charge your gadgets (some exemptions) can be found on the route . WiFi and a charging can be provided in most place for a small fee (e.g. Rs100–400). Wireless internet can be insecure, slow or unusable.  You will get more than you would expect to boost your connection with your phone if you carry Nepal SIM (GPRS / EDGE speed). Tea houses will charge you from either solar or battery-based outlets, so it is better to either rely on your own electronic devices and power bank.

You will need to arrange both the Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) permit and the Annapurna National Park Permit (sometimes also known as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit). There will be plenty of tap water available on the trek. Taps in, out or in guesthouses mean that there are plenty of places to fill your bottles and/or your water bladders. This could be where you stay, a lunch stop, or a shared public tap used by locals. Use an efficient sterilization method to make sure your water is safe and not contaminated in anyway.Bottled water is available to buy throughout the trek, but we would advise against this for a number of reasons. You do not need them if you use sterilization method. Environment concerns are there and also buying water is expensive up in the mountains.

We suggest taking out an insurance plan for your individual accountability, accidents and illnesses during the service.Regarding the type of activity, you may be asked to show a certificate of insurance for help and support, sanitation and search. This service is private and not free in Nepal, the helicopter will not take off until it is convinced to pay for the insurance.

For the trek, we'll have one porter for two people as per group size. The porter will carry 12-15 kg per person luggage during the trek. You need to carry your daypack to keep your personal belongings such as wallet, camera, water bottle, dry snack, headlight, gadgets etc.

It’s difficult to give an exact amount of money that you should bring. Costs will vary according to how much you want to spend for shopping and where and what meals (lunch & dinner) you want to eat. Trekkers find that around $20 (for lunch & dinner) a day is reasonable for the trekking days.

There will be two people accommodated in each room for the duration of the tour. If you prefer private accommodation, you'll find the option for "single supplement" of USD 200. Important:  Please note that during the trek there are some lodges which won't have sufficient rooms to provide private accommodation. So, even if you purchase single supplement you will end up sharing a room for some days of the trek.

As for the tips, A general rule of thumb for tipping is USD 25 for the guide per traveller and USD 25 for porter between two travellers if you are fully satisfied with their service. So we suggest you allocate a minimum of USD 50 for Tipping. This is just a guideline and you may tip whatever / how much you think is appropriate for the services rendered which made your trek a memorable one.

Yes, children are over the age of 12 are allowed to do the trek. Please make sure they are accustomed to high hills and stairs walking before doing the trek.

This trek consist of stone stairs climbing and acents and decents periodically. Though it is considered easy and safe trek, it is still advised that older people take caution. If you are fit and healthy and have previous trekking experience, you could easily do this trekking without any fuss and if you are novice, then you should do it at slow pace and after training and checking up with your doctor if you can do this trek under some medical condition. Age however is not the limit if you are healthy and physcially fit with good stamina.

Since it is popular trekking destinations among domestic and foreign trekkers, the trekking route has now variety of food menu. You can commonly find Oatmeal, Corn Flakes, French toast with Jam, Butter, Cheese, and Honey , Tibetan bread or Chapati , Local tsampa porridge, Hashed brown eggs, Varieties of eggs (Omelets), Pancakes,  Muesli Breads Fruits and Vegetables, Hot drinks like varieties of teas and coffees, Hot chocolates etc)(Dhal, Bhat & Tarkari, Tibetan Bread Various Soups items, Sherpa Stew Steaks,  Sandwiches,  Momo (dumplings), Macaroni dishes, Tenduk Spaghetti Noodles, Thukpa, Pasta ,Vegetable curry, Potatoes items, Vegetable and salad Pizza (Tomato, Mushroom, Mixed), Snacks (Papad, Prawn),  Desserts items (Rice Pudding, Apple pie) etc.

Though it not generally required, if you feel like the need, you should bring it on your own.

The trek takes normally 4-5 hours a day to catch up on spectacular views of the mountains. The Trek Routes at Ghorepani Poonhill are relatively uphill, downhill and straight, but this is a high-mountain trek that has to go on remote trials in the Himalayas. This trek will join with trekkers who can walk 4 to 5 hours a day at a comfortable speed with a light days bag. Some days can take longer hours to complete the trek. You must also be fairly fit and trained.

The Poon Hill Trek will not be a problem for AMS (acute mountain sickness). Many people in Gorepani may sense the altitude but not acutely feel sickness.Because Poonhill is under 4000 m above sea level, there is no chance of altitude or mountain illness.

"Big shout out to our Guide Amir who excelled his role"

I travelled around Nepal and Himalaya Social Journey made the trip very smooth, I cannot recommend it enough. Big shout out to our Guide Amir who excelled his role in every possible way, we was our side kick during the trip, very knowledgeable, friendly, punctual, helpful and provided a faultless service during our trip to Poon Hill. Also our porter Su Deep was on the same level of service as Amir was. In our trip to Ilam our guide Rubiska was very sweet and helpful with every type of information and service we needed. I cannot say what was the favourite part of our trip as every place and activity was different and special on its own. This is a very memorable trip for us and will treasure every moment of it.

    "My first challenge"

I was very anxious as I had no experience in alpine trekking for the first time, but our guides and porters always supported and cheered me on. They cared about making sure we could safely navigate dangerous roads. They helped us finish the tour safely. I tipped them on the last day, which didn't seem to be what they expected (though I gave them an additional amount later). I couldn't figure out the right tipping market because there is no tipping custom in Japan. As a Japanese, I found those things a little difficult. Other than that, I'm very happy to have had such a life-changing experience.

    "Best way to experience Nepal"

We did the 14 days Nepal budget tour and we could not be more happy with our choice. In only 2 weeks we visited Kathmandu, Chitwan national park, Pokhara and did a 5 day trek in the Annapurna region. The organization was flawless (like a swiss clock). We felt safe and welcomed in every place. Our guides Harka (Chitwan) and Ganesh (Pokhara and trek) + Bishal (our porter) did an outstanding job. We recommend them and the whole trip 100%. It was much better than we could have imagined. In the end, we recommand everyone to visit the beautiful places from Nepal and meet its warm and welcoming people.
